2000 Ford Focus ignition coil

Car: Ford Focus
Year: 2000
Variant: 1.4
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
hi i've been having problems with my car for the past month or so. its been very heavy on fuel and has been loosing power. i've giving it a service 2day. changed oil, spark plugs, air oil and fuel filter. started car up after fitting the spark plugs and releised that it wasnt running great. i thought it mite be a faulty spark plug so i changed spark plug from 4th cylinder to 3rd and so on and it sparked ok. i then removed and ht leads one by one to c which cylinder wasnt firing and found then the 4th cylinder wasnt sparking at all and the other 3 cylinders where. i was just wondering would that indicate that the ignition coil is gone?? also i noticed that when i removed the old spark plugs cylinder spark plug was very black compared to thr other 3. any ideas would be greatly aprecited as this has been an on going problem

most likely to be the coilpack but if you have a multimeter check the resistance of the HT leads normally around 3thousand ohms per foot of lead compare it to the others and you can also check the coil secondary windings by putting the meter across 1 and 4 and note the difference compared to 2 and 3 (tested at the point wher the leads push into the coil)hope this helps

thanks for that will try that greatly appreciated

just was thinking i have a manual on a ford fiesta and opel corsa... would they normal be the same resistance on every car at the ht leads or do they vary from car to car?? and to check the coil secondary windings i remove the lead at the coil pack end and put meter in were lead would normal be and check voltage at coil or ohms?

ignition off (unplug the multiplug too if you like) check the secondary resistance on ohms down the coil towers ie where the plug lads push into between holes 1 and 4 then 2 and 3 compare

coil secondarys around 9900 ohms approx
