2002 Ford Focus chugging noise from engine,feeling vibration while in car,engine warning light on

HELLO ALL,got a very worrying problem that suddenly happened today,a chugging noise is coming from the engine,sluggish accelaration up through the gears,the chugging can be felt while in the car and the engine warning light flashes on,i had a similar problem a couple of years ago which was an electrical fault but the engine warning light didn't come on,this sounds like an expensive problem can anyone help?

first thing get ecu codes read, when lamp comes on it records a code in ecu memory this will point you to the fault prob a missfire light coil packs a favorite
