Hi i have a focus in spain and this week end the temp gauge when i stoped at traffic lights started to rise then shoot back to normal i checked my radiator fans and they were working and there was water in the system some times it stays on normal then goes in to red and stays there for a while then goes back to normal i am going back to spain this week end and its bothering me any help would be appreciated Regard Steve.

Hi I have the same engine in my focus and had excatley the same problem I had the radiator flushed thought it was blocked but if you have washed your engine recently pull your rubber plugs out that push ontop of your sparks and have a look if any water has got in there as there is a sensor in there if there is this water heats up as it can't escape and the sensor thinks your engine is going to melt do it when your engine is hot and you will see condensation on your plugs hope this works if not could be your water pump could be failing blades can come off thus not pushing enough water around
