2001 Ford Focus erratic displays

Hi guys, just found the site and hope someone can help. I have a 51 plate 1.6 focus with 53K miles. Occasionally when driving(anywhere between 40-65 mph)the power reduces and the dash displays go boz the speedo and rev counter drop to zero and the trip meter and mileage just show dashes. The engine management light comes on and when i go to the garage to have it checked they can't seem to find a fault, when light is re-set (turned off) this lasts about 2 days then pops back on again. got fed up with having it re-set without sorting the underlying problem, any ideas welcome. thanks jeff

i had a mondeo where the battery had a slight leak and corroided a main battery cable would loose all sorts,remove battery look around.
older focus/escorts suffered from fuse boxes corroding check there.if light comes on a code should be stored in ecm what is code in yours b4 reset of light

I am having the dash replaced for £99 from ford dealer on Thursday.
The following is from the Which web site.
The carmaker will also refund the difference to anyone who has already paid more than £99 to have theirs fixed, although owners will have to provide a repair receipt from an official Ford dealer.
It has also set up a special customer hotline on 0800 166166 and says there is nothing indicating a similar issue with any other models in the Ford range.
