2004 Ford Focus speedometer drops to zero

When driving and I have to slow down for a car in front the speedometer drops to Zero and stays there. Sometimes it wil kick back up to the speed I am driving and other times it will stay down and then the digital meter will show only stripes. I had the car to a few garages but it seems that they do not get the fault. Lately when I start the car and drive a short distance the speedometer is working. When switched of and start again the speedometer doesn't work

Sounds like a problem with the dash module or connectors to the rear of same.

Instrument cluster fault is very common .
