Engine problematic

2001 Ford Focus 1.4 16v petrol
Car: Ford Focus
Year: 2001
Variant: 1.4 16v petrol
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
As I'm driving the engine seems to hold back on acceleration. It is burning oil and is very smokey (white smoke). When under acceleration the temp gauge goes into red for few seconds before dropping back to halfway. Also when braking the engine falters quite badly.

Have had top end rebuilt with new valves. Timing has been checked and is correct.

I need to get this sorted as I travel 50 miles per day to work.

Burning oil is the blue smoke , white smoke is usually coolant .Get a block test carried out .Did no one check bores and for piston wear when head off ? Were valve stems checked for wear and seals replaced ? Checked your compressions ?

Piston heads were very clean. No compression on no 4 piston. Wasn't any undue movement in pistons. Bores looked OK.

That car was notorious for dropping valve seats .
