2008 Ford Focus bad road/tyre noise

Car: Ford Focus
Year: 2008
Variant: 1.6 Tdci Style
Categories: Steering, Suspension, Brakes, Wheels & Tyres
Hi everyone, I have just bought a one year old latest model 1.6 Tdci Stle Focus, the car is great but for the road/tyre noise, engine noise is well suppressed, it becomes so wearing after 30 miles I can't wait to get out of the car, only on 5% of road surfaces is it near to acceptable, I will get rid of the car if I can't reduce noise significantly.
The car is shod with new Michelin Primacy 205/55 R16's(changed from Wanli to see if noise would be reduced).
Has anyone had success in reducing road noise with soundproofing in a Focus, thinking of buying kit from Noisekiller.com @ £195,but wonder if wasting my time? Did think of trading up to Titanium model thinking there would be more soundproofing, but Ford tell me no more soundproofing in higher spec models, all to do with weight saving. Any help appreciated, thanks, Nick.

Thanks for tyre suggestion but Toyo Proxes 4 but don't seem to be made in my 205/55 R16 size, maybe other tread patterns for their other T.P.CF1's not so quiet?

Still would like to hear about anyone's experience of soundproofing aspect of initial question, thanks, nick.

I am in exactly the same boat. Although I did have a couple of test drives before I bought. Both were in similar cars, ie. Zetec and Titanium, and they didn't seem unduly noisey. But the one I bought is terrible at anything above 35 mph. I have been back to Ford dealer where I purchased car and they don't seem to consider it anything out of the ordinary. So I'm going to do some more road tests and if I find a quiet one, I'll see what tyres are on it and then try some.
