Wipers operate with ignition turned off

2005 Ford Focus Manual petrol 1.6 hatch
Car: Ford Focus
Year: 2005
Variant: Manual petrol 1.6 hatch
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
I was outside the car with the ignition key. The wiper switch was in OFF position. I noticed the front wipers working, slowly. The problem occurred several times today, both with car locked and unlocked. The wipers seem to operate a few sweeps and then stop. I've disconnected the battery. I'll need to connect the battery tomorrow, but was planning to take out the wiper's fuse until I can sort out the problem. We had a frost last night and the wipers blades were stuck to the windscreen so I know they did not operate overnight. I did not use the wipers today until they were unfrozen, so that could not be the cause..

Hi there! you say that the wipers work with the ignition keys out?! strange.....

Does your car have rain sensitive wipers? could be that or could be a faulty wiper stalk.

Thanks fluffyduck. It's more than strange - it's annoying because it will flatten the battery and ruin the wiper blades. The wipers are NOT rain senstitive, and the car was parked with the wiper switch in OFF position.

Got to be honest mate you got me stumped on this one! I dont see how they can still work with no power at all....

Thought about contacting an Auto electrical specialist for his/her view?

Woodley! Seeing as you stumped me so badly i called a mate who works for Ford. Ford have issued a "Technical service bulletin" for this problem. The problem is a faulty relay.

Get her booked in.
