2011 Ford Focus engine malfunction

Car: Ford Focus
Year: 2011
Variant: TDCI 1.6
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
I got the car with 40 something k miles on teh clock I drove 50 miles a day for 6+ months its up at 66+k now one day I went shopping parked in a multi story and when I went back the car would not start. Eventually with a nasty noise it did start ran for a few seconds then displayed engine malfunction and would not start again. Called out recovery who sprayed easy start and got it going a few more times but each time the same thing happened. It was hit whilst being repaired and is in the body shop now. When it comes out and they take their courtesy car back I wont have transport and I cant just scrap it because its on Hire Purchase. Any ideas what the root cause moght be the garage it was at thought it may be the starter changed that out and the issue remains. Until this point no issue start firts time every time not even a niggle closest thing to a problem is rear brakes jamming in cold weather then this.

Lots of words and very little usefull information.
1st off what do you mean by non start?
is the engine actually turning over on the key but not firing up?
Or is it not turning over on the key,

Guess it's turning over if recovery got it started with easy start .If so the fuel filter should have been changed at third service, three years or 37,500 miles, whichever comes first. Wonder if it was done prior to you buying ? worth changing anyway as fast approaching next change interval .

I had one in relayed by the big yellow truck guys,
non start and stated starter fault,
they bump started it,
And my reason for specifics are the starter isn't activated by the key on these,
Key signals the power control module and if conditions are met it signals the starter relay in the engine bay fuse box and it then connects to the starter motor solenoid.
and none of this happens if there's no CAN COMS between modules.
And I've had two in like that.
