2000 Ford Focus water issue

Car: Ford Focus
Year: 2000
Categories: Leaks & Noises
On holiday swap car in Spain not mine . Had difficulty getting biting point due to everything being on 'wrong' side do not know what happened but the was a small bang when I was trying since them the car seems to be leaking water. It runs ok, the neighbour of the house swap people said not to worry as the house swap people are car mechanics but I have been worrying. I filled the see through (think radiator) tank with water last night it felt very hot I did fill slowly and took cap off very slowly. I have 3 kids with me and really want to keep using car but am worried. Anyone help !!

Need to verify if car is losing coolant or not .Top up coolant tank , run till working temp , check heater blowing hot air . Let it cool down and recheck coolant level , If car has air con and you have had it on , you do get water dripping from air con drain occasionally which is perfectly normal .

Thanks for this , That's really helpful. Not exactly sure where coolest tank is I think that's where we topped up with water. the instructions are all in Spanish so could not even work it out from manual. Is it the See through tank in front of the washer water ? What do you top it up with ? Today we used the car without air con on and we think there was some water (unsure) it certainly did not drip as we drove off which it had been. We had been using Air Con on all our journeys as we found it so hot.

This shows you the coolant header tank .If you were back in Scotland you would top up with an antifreeze mix but will get away with water in Spain . Use the air con , you'll need it in Spain .All cars with air con drip some water from a drain , that's what it's for .Just keep an eye on water level in the tank and check engine oil level is o.k also .

Thanks so much will check levels has put my mind at rest and enjoy my holiday. I think he noise was probably something unrelated but I just related the two because I am not used to the air con leak in my own car. thanks Anne

It's not a leak as such , the air con condenser collects the water out of the air. The water has to go somewhere, so it drips out the onto the road. Just keep an eye on water level in coolant tank does not drop to be safe in case not that which suggested .If level constant you should be fine . Enjoy your holiday .
