Roof malfunctions in hot, sunny weather

2010 Ford Focus CC-2 TDCi (coupe/cabriolet
Car: Ford Focus
Year: 2010
Variant: CC-2 TDCi (coupe/cabriolet
When the car was two years old (July 2013), if left out in hot, sunny weather the roof failed to fold down completely (only about 1/3rd of the way). It was checked by the local Ford roof specialist but nothing was found - at that time I hadn't made the connection with high temperatures and the malfunction so didn't mention it. The fault has occurred again this summer. No problem if the car has been in a cool garage overnight and I put the roof down first thing in the morning. Also,no strange noises, vibrations etc.

it could be a problem with the cables to the boot catches.they may need a small adjustment so catches move enough for proper contact with micro switches.

Will it fold ok if you help it on its way. Like is it stiff when the weather is hot. Maybe expansion.

It must be expansion related anyway I would think even if a PCB or switch can't take the hot days

I'm sure a car that new you will have a case to take it back.

Did you look at the roof?

I could be talking rubbish about the expansion but you never know

Your welcome. Its nice to get thanks sometimes

I don't think there is a thank you button on members names but don't worry about it.

Could you please post your findings and your fix please so others can read it

Yes, will do. I think I'll try and talk directly to the Ford roof specialist at the dealership where I bought the car armed with the knowledge I've got from this site. It's hardly an urgent problem but I missed out on a great drive with the roof down through the Black mountains on a summer evening recently - the car had been parked in full sun.

I have now had my car into the local Ford garage and I talked to the technician explaining about the influence of temperature on the function of the roof before he investigated. From their diagnostics procedure, it seems there is a faulty no 3 sensor. This will need replacing at a cost of £600, so I'm thinking about what to do. They did repair a problem with the heating dial free though.
