Speedo cuts out and car stall's???

2001 Ford Focus
Car: Ford Focus
Year: 2001
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
it started on the way home 01.10.13 when the speedo stopped working and I cant be sure but it seemed like a loss of power.

it happened a few times since and I wasn't to worried as it started working a few miles down the road each time.

but the last 3 times when the speedo stops the car has cut out which is worrying as the power steering turns off.

I've read online about changing the speedo but its the cutting out that scares me will changing the vehicle speed sensor stop the car from cutting out.

im in a desperate need of some advice please

many thanks in advance

Check/ replace speed sensor. But check wiring /plug first.

In my case of these symptoms, the lights on the dash all illuminated, the speedo needle went to zero and the engine cut out, but almost instantly everything was corrected and the engine ran again. It was due to the engine rocking back on the engine mounts which over time caused a fracture in the rubber connector for the vaccuum pipe to the EGR valve. As the engine rocked back under acceleration so the vacuum was released, the ECU switched everything off, the engine rocked forward, closed the rubber pipe connector crack and the ECU switched the engine back on. I found it as I broke the rubber connector while cleaning inside the inlet manifold and EGR valve with spray solution.
