Engine cuts out 4 secs after starting

engine starts fine even without glow plugs given time, but cuts out after a few seconds. wont start again untill foot to floor and starting in for 30 secs. ruff then ok. starts ok when warm.

possibly e,g,r valve would first check for codes.
