Car: Ford Focus
Year: 2000
Variant: 1.6 manual
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
hi, i was hopeing one of you car fanatics could help me with my problem... i have a ford focus 1.6 v reg... its at 104,000 and had clutch , timing belt and other major things replaced. my problem is i was driving fine , then suddenly after a gear change my car looses power... the only way i can describe what it feels like is saying its like being in fourth gear goinig round a slow bend... when your car pulls ( like it wants to stall) it is also blowing out white smoke, but not loads... it smells of burning, not the cat though as its not eggey. And not like burning rubber just another type of burning ( sorry for the poor description). someone has suggested it could be the gasket on the manifold but im wanting advice first before paying loads of money again... would appriciate any advice. xxx

Sounds like head gasket . Check coolant level when engine cools down, not whilst warm or you could get scalded .

but the car wouldnt drive if it was the head gasket would it? xx

Yes .The white smoke is either steam from gasket gone or possibly from an injector fault .With the burning smell , looks like gasket .If you keep on running car with a blown head gasket , you will " cook " engine and it will seize up .
