the car usually works perfectly,but for the past couple of days it has made a horrible whineing/whizzing type noise when i start it up.i have not wanted to drive it like this , however a friend suggested i drive it to see if the noise went away.after about 2/3miles it did.but then when i came to start it up again the noise was still there. it is quite loud. could it be the fan belt,or something more serious.

Hard to say without hearing noise , but as suggested , could be belt slipping . Worth getting it checked out in case it develops into something serious .
