White smoke & ruff idle

2004 Ford Focus C-Max 2.0L TDCI
Car: Ford Focus C-Max
Year: 2004
Variant: 2.0L TDCI
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
Hi, My Ford Focus C-Max 2.0L TDCI ZETEC 2004 started to give problems and Engine Management light went on. I took it to the garage and they diagnose it to be the diesel pump as its breaking up? but i didn't change it back then.
Couple of weeks back my car started to idle very ruff (no more than 1000rpm) with white smoke coming from the exhaust. If you turn the car off and then back on again its fine???

Last week i changed the Fuel Pump (High Pressure pump) myself but when i start the car it doesnt want to reff or idle more than 1000rpm and loads of white smoke coming from exhaust. In the past if the car idles i could smell diesel from exhaust, I checked the oil and there is no water/oil mixture and also the fuel intake on the cylinders is all pumping away?

What can this be?

Could this be a EGR Valve issue?
