Loss of power

2004 Ford Focus C-Max 1.6 Turbo Diesel Manual
Car: Ford Focus C-Max
Year: 2004
Variant: 1.6 Turbo Diesel Manual
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
I've had a 54 plate Focus C-max diesel for 3 months.Last Monday there was a severe loss of power, even on the flat, and the engine warning light came on. I took it to the garage and the mechanic found that it would not rev above 3000 rpm. He removed and cleaned one of the sensors under the bonnet. This got rid of the warning light and the engine revved up OK. It now drives normally until I come to a hill, then the speed and the revs plummet, 65-40mph in about 10 seconds and I have drop down the gears until I end up in second gear. These are all gentle hills that the car previously went up in fifth at 60mph. However, if I start from the bottom of a hill, it will accelerate through all the gears to fifth, and will reach 60mph by the time I reach the top of the hill. Any ideas on what the problem could be? Thanks.
