Problem with heating system

2002 Ford Fiesta 1.3
Car: Ford Fiesta
Year: 2002
Variant: 1.3
Categories: Leaks & Noises
Heater takes a long time to get hot and when it does it goes cold if the car is stationary at traffic lights etc and then hot again once I set off. Incidentally the coolant level is showing full.
Problem added: Feb 8, 2011 (13 years ago)
check the cooling system for leaks by doing a pressure test, make sure the thermostat is`nt stuck and that the coolant is circulating around the system, make sure the pipes that connect to the heater matrix are getting nice and hot

As you say the coolant level is full and you are not losing water , the first thing I would check / test would be thermostat .Other common fault with that car is the heater control valve . When engine warm feel hoses into and out of valve are hot .
