2002 Ford Fiesta failsafe mode

Vehicle runs fantastic in goog weather but when raining ,warning light appears on dash EAU ? and vehicle goes into failsafe mode ie no faster than 30mph,then if you pull over and wait for short period all is ok,for while then happens again- Tried Ford but they are totally clueless, any ideas ?
