ALARM LIGHT STAYING ON, BOOT RELEASE NOT WORKING

1998 Ford Fiesta GHIA
Car: Ford Fiesta
Year: 1998
Variant: GHIA
Categories: Electrics, ECU, Warnings & Lights
The boot release button is no longer, working, the red alarm light instead of flashing remains on all the time and the light to indicate a door is open is not working. I assume they must be related in someway as they all happended at the same time. Can anyone help, have checked fuses etc.

check all the door pin switches on doors, boot and bonnet are not broken or damaged, check wiring to boot switch and make sure the tailgate harness is not damaged, also check that you are getting a power and earth to boot release motor to eliminate a fault there

Do the rear wiper and hrw work correctly? If not then this could be the common problem with a poor earth circuit to the tailgate which also affects electric release mechanism.hth

sorted this problem for the wife in the argos carpark on sunday by asking her to repeatably flick the switch as i opened the boot and shut it again
i too think its an earthing problem but usually on the mk5 fiesta the rear wiper still works, however there are 2 types of rear tailgate on these models so depending how its wiresd will have a baring
sometimes a crack with a hammer on the hinges brings restoration of things electrical (earths through hinges )
