2005 Ford Fiesta catastropic engine failure

Car: Ford Fiesta
Year: 2005
Variant: fiesta flame 1.4
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
I just need advice on what to do. I have recently had the car serviced 2 weeks ago, in the week following the car started stalling intermittently mainly on reversing, then the clutch went to the floor on two occasions whilst driving. I then drove home after school run and reversed outside house and car stalled. I went inside house for 5 mins and on return could not start car. Called AA - they came out and fixed clutch with small ring shaped link and then started car which sounded like a tank! They pronounced the car unsafe and towed to ford dealer. Ford dealer ring me today to say pistons 1 & 4 unable to maintain compression and need a new engine at over £3,000. Rang Ford Technical division whose first question was on the recent service did they replace spark plugs (yes they did) these could have broken and got into engine. Help!!! What do I do next - to strip engine ford want £600 - this car has only done 25,000 and is certainly not over revved it goes to shops and schools mainly.

The problem with the clutch is a well known fault caused by a clip on pedal at master cyl rod . I assume the garage that serviced car was a Ford dealership ? Is this where the car was taken back to by the AA ? Rather than contacting Ford Technical Services you might have been better getting on to Customer Services , again , as long as serviced by Ford dealer .Spark plugs don't break and get into engine unless something has caused it . It might be worthwhile contacting the AA and asking for one of their engineers / inspectors to examine and report on car , especially in view of just been serviced .I am sure , if worse scenario was engine needing overhauled , you could get it done for an awfully lot less than £3000 by engine specialist / reconditioners .I would also insist on them keeping any parts removed or replaced for examination to find what caused engine failure .Hope this helps.
