2005 Ford Fiesta noisey engine intermittent and car smells of exhaust fumes

Just recently we have noticed that the engine makes a kind of hissing sound (usually after its warm) and at times can be clattery. Anyone come across this before ? Theres no loss of power and was serviced 3 months ago.
