2005 Ford Fiesta weird engine noise?

The noise has just started, after going through a lot of big puddles due to flooding.
Basically Its a type of tick-tock noise, I dont think its coming from the engine! if anything it seems to come from aux belt type area, It will stop after a few minutes, Ive been too a local garage and they mentioned the belt or belts, neither me or them could hear the noise after just a short trip from work ( literally 100yds down the road ).
Anyone got any ideas would be much appreciated.
