Mk6 Fiesta flywheel/gearbox issue??

2003 Ford Fiesta 1.4 Zetec
Car: Ford Fiesta
Year: 2003
Variant: 1.4 Zetec
Categories: Gearbox & Clutch
I've just picked up a cheap 2003 1.4 petrol Fiesta with around 118000 miles on the clock.

I'm noticing a significant vibration through the pedals as I accelerate through the gears. It's fine in 1st and 2nd, you begin to notice the shake in 3rd at around 30 mph and it's particularly bad in 4th accelerating through 35-45 mph. It smooths out again once you top 50 mph in 5th.

I've had a similar problem once before on a 2.0l diesel X-Type Jag and the culprit was the dual mass flywheel, however I'm guessing that since the fiesta is a small petrol lump that it won't have a dual mass flywheel fitted, is that correct??

Any thoughts on what the issue is and how to remedy it.

Thanks

Don't think it has a dual mass flywheel. Check engine and transmission mounts , wheel balance , damaged / twisted tyres

It's just had two new front tyres, tracked and balanced and there is no vibration through the steering wheel as you'd expect from a poorly balancer wheel so I doubt it's that.

The strength and frequency of the vibration changes with the gear changes which makes me think it is definitely gearbox/clutch related. I'll have the mounts checked out. If there is no DMF is there anything else in the transmission that could become misaligned to create a heavy, low frequency vibration?

The 1.4 TDCI has a DMF . You could check the driveshaft c/v joints for wear but with a car of that year and mileage many possible causes .
