Four cylinders one not working 50000 miles on clock
What do we do? Ford want £2000 to repair but could there be further problems if a new cylinder is put in ?

Ouch!
Anywhoo it needs to be determined just what's up with the duff cylinder.
And I'd begin with a compression test,
3s working so test it.

You need to supply a breakdown of the Ford estimate of £ 2000 .You cant put a new cyl . in as such but different causes for the cyl to fail .
