2002 Ford Fiesta leaking water oil

Hi recently my car started steaming when i was driving, i pulled over and realised it was leaking water and oil. Ive looked under the bonnet and it seems that a pump is loose which looks like its connected the the heaters. I've tried to fix it myself by putting something in it to connect the two but its only a quick fix really so its not leaking as much. anyone got ideas what it is or why its happened? and also why its happened?
