2009 Ford Fiesta display fault

hi all
My fuel gauge was reading just under a third of a tank. the display was showing 41miles. the fuel light was on on the dash. when I turn the engine off the gauge resets to zero. restarted the engine the gauge moved to a third of a tank. put £20 of fuel in the car and the fuel gauge moved to over 3 quarters of a tank but the display was reading 138 miles until next fuel stop with 26mpg mmm. normally this reads approx. 250miles and 61mpg. anyone help thanks fatbob

Drive it for a while and it may correct .Often happens and sometimes takes a while to recalculate driving manner etc . Sometimes filling tank can reset also .
