1999 Ford Fiesta accelerator jammed, please help!

Car: Ford Fiesta
Year: 1999
Categories: Leaks & Noises
I was driving home tonight when my accelerator jammed. If i start the car in neutral its rev'ing to its maximum. If i slip it into first gear the car will drive off, but its still reving very high and goes on its own. The same happens in 2nd and 3rd and 4th but with less reving in 4th, it just flies along on its own. I was able to slow it down by braking, but after about 5 minutes the brakes failed and now there is almost nothing there when i press them. When i finally was able roll the car into a safe spot, when i got out there was a very very strong buring smell all around the car.

Does anyone have any idea what the problem might be, any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

Kind Regards
Ali

You dont say which fiesta you have, so lets start with some ideas
1 cable stuck inside its outer cable.
2 cable has jumped off the throttle quadrant and jammed the throttle open
3 Accelerator pedal siezed due to corrosion (rust) on the spindle.
The strong smell of burning will be the clutch or brakes (check and replace as nesseceary)
