boot open light on dash on permanently boot is definitely locked opens and closes with key fob no problem

Could be a fault with the micro switch which is part of the lock .If you pull trim off and spray with WD40 might work . Another possible cause may be the wiring where it passes through from the body into the top of tailgate .
