1995 Ford Fiesta wont start

Got a good spark but on removing air filter and disconnecting pipe from left side (looking from front)of carb, at igition on fuel spurts from carb connection from which I disconnected pipe. Primed carb with a little petrol and car started briefly.

your car is injected not carb as you say, but it does resemble a carb. Right reasons for not starting
1 take out the plugs and check the gaps also see if there wet with fuel--if they are replace them.

Check the valve clerances, you say its a 1.1 so clerances should be 20thou in / 30thou ex.

Check fuse box for blown fuse's i.e. ECU fuse etc

Check the fuel cut off switch (n/s footwell) make sure its down.
if it still wont start give it a viking funeral lol seriously if no joy post back
