2000 Ford Fiesta interior lights not going on when i open the door

Car: Ford Fiesta
Year: 2000
Categories: Electrics, ECU, Warnings & Lights
No interior light comes on when I open the door. The light can be turned on with the actual switch on it, but then I have to put things down and reach across to turn it off also. Should a light come on automatically once I turn the engine off, and stay on until I shut the door (like with my last car)?
Thanks

Not sure on that year but later models it was a 3 position switch .1 was manually on , 2 was off all together and 3 was through door switches and comes on when switched off as you suggest .
