Electric Windows not working

Car: Ford Fiesta

Both front electric windows not operating. I have checked the fuse OK. There is power to both switches(measured 12 vdc at switches and the green light is illuminated) when any of the switches are depressed I can hear a noise both sides but the windows don't move. Any suggestions what could be wrong

Did both of the windows fail at the same time?

Yes they both failed at the same time. The car had gone through the carwash earlier in the day, they were working after and then after a couple of hours stopped.

Doesn't have an isolator switch / setting that cuts out opening windows and has been accidentaly pushed ? Strange both go at the same time .Could try holding the switches one at a time in up position for 10 secs and then try down .

Thanks for your advise. I have tried your suggestion and one thing I have noticed is when you press the Driver side switch the switch light goes off but when I tried the passenger side switch the light on the switch stayed on. Could it be a short on the switch?

Could try swapping the switch ? Cant figure how both would go at the one time with fuse being o.k and getting power , but not an auto electrician .Same problem last week with a friends Vectra and it was a broken wire where the wires pass through into door (under rubber sheath)which is common Wiggled the wires and it worked , before repairing harness , but usualy only affects one side .

Hi I have done some more investigation and have now discovered that the noise that I can hear appears to be the central locking motor.

If I depress any of the electric window switches I can hear the central locking motor and the interior light comes on and then off.

If I turn the rear window heater on the interior light comes on and stays on and when I turn it off the light goes off and the same central locking noise can be heard.

On both of the faults above I have noticed the door open warning light come on.

Could it be the GEM unit?
