1996 Ford Fiesta temperature gauge / airbag light

The temperature gauge doesn't work, it stays on cold all the time but the heaters work ok. Is this just an electrical fault? Also the airbag light keeps flashing continuously, I was told this is because it wasn't reset when the airbag was changed after 100,000 miles. I've heard there is a way to switch it off?

suspect colant temp sensor , remove plug and place a split pin to compleat circuit and see if it moves if so replace switch if not will be an electrical fault. air bag just neads reset at ford not expensive
