Sterring rack oil leak

2006 Ford Fiesta 1.4 TDCi Van
Car: Ford Fiesta
Year: 2006
Variant: 1.4 TDCi Van
Categories: Leaks & Noises
I have traced the leak to where the 2 pipes go into the rack, there is a bolt that holds a plate that holds the 2 pipes in place the problem is the threads have gone inside the rack so the bolt won't tighten up fully causing a slight leak, is there any way round this without replacing the whole rack as the rest of it is working fine (seems a lot of work just for 1 bolt hole) If i do have to change the rack what sort of job is it? there is a big plate with all the suspention parts bolted to it does this have to come off aswell or does the rack come out with that still in place, i would be doing it on my drive with a set of ramps so need to know the easyest and quickest way possible, any tips would be great. Thanks

No way you can get in to retap stripped bolt ?

the bolt will be slightly shorter than the hole it goes in, and if your lucky there will still be some threads further down the hole. remove the bolts a measure the depth of the hole with a screwdriver or something slim, get another bolt that size or cut one down and reasemble being sure it tightens down fully.
don't forget to renew the seals on the pipes though

Thanks for that Rizzo, i mights try that, i did notice when i took the bolt out it had a un threaded part (about 5mm) on the end and had a rounded end i thought at first the bolt was stripped but the thread on the rest of the bolt was good, i don't know if the plain bit on the end does anything inside the rack, do you know why its like that?
