2004 Ford Fiesta no one knows whats wrong with my car!!!!

Car: Ford Fiesta
Year: 2004
Variant: Finesse
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
Hi guys,

Excuse me if this post is too long but its an ongoing saga with my car.

In April my car had new pads and discs at the front as I had a brake judder. About two weeks later I noticed that there was a ticking noise happening as I depressed the brake. The noise sounds like it comes from the drivers side front. The noise got worse and worse so i took it back to Kwik fit and they replaced the pads and discs saying that it may be a manufacturing problem with the discs. Alls well for about 2 weeks, then the problem returns. The original ticking plus the car sounds noisy above 40mph. Take it back to Kwik Fit, they say i need a new exhuast. Exhuast is fitted - problem is the same. Took it back again - they say they have no idea what the ticking is and advise me to 'turn my radio up'.

Okay, so not happy with that and take it to the Hi-Q garage down the road. In sequence it has a new CV joint (doesn't help) and new wheel bearing (which takes away the noisy car above 40mph problem). However the ticking is still there. So it has another set of discs and pads. This appears to solve the ticking but leaves me with a new problem, there is a loud rattle whenever i go over rough ground. Concerned that something is looses i take it back to Hi-Q and they can't find anything wrong. So i keep on driving. After approx 1 week that rattle is now louder and yes you've guessed it, the ticking is back. It has been back to the garage again today and they can't find anything wrong with it - not drive shaft, caliper, nothing. They have basically given up on it now and advised me to take it to the Ford garage. I am loath to do this because they have screwed me in the past, and I have already spent a lot of time and money on this car and the problem is still there.

I am self employed and need my car for work. Does anyone have any idea what this could be, is it worth me spending any more money on it. The garage reckons its safe to drive but the problem is getting worse and worse.

I bought it used in 2006 (prev a pool car). Not really any massive problems before this. Am very frustrated by people acknowledging there is a problem but basically not being able to fix it.

PLease, please can someone help me!!

i have known the front hub where the wheel bearing is fitted to be damaged when bearing fitted alowing the bearing to move very slightly
is the noise rotational eg worse when faster.
have you thought of swapping parts side to side till noise moves . or getting a full suspension corner from scrap yard.shame you havent got a pal with same car swapping bits till noise found
noise would be very hard to locate without seeing car.hope these ideas help

Hi, thanks for your reply.

The ticking noise only happens after I have been driving for about 20 - 30 mins, tend to hear it first while braking uphill or downhill. As it gets worse it happens while braking on the flat also.

Unfortunately I'm not car minded so I would be unable to swop anything over, I would hope that the garage would have tried that but as i said they have given up now really.

Do you think i should just keep driving until it gets worse and worse and then hope someone can gind something wrong with it?

Thanks for your help

Hi,

I'm in cornwall but thanks for your offer! I've spoken to a garage friend (in Norfolk unfortunately) who says that fiestas are known to have a problem with the anti roll bar link.

Think i've found an independent mechanic in exeter (where i work), so will take it to him next week.

Cross fingers it doesn't work out too expensive and that he can actually find out whats wrong!

if here is a ticking sound there could be a stone at the back of the disk or the back plate catching the disc
