1995 Ford Escort emmisions

my ford ascort 1.8si has high co and i need to lower these as its failed the mot.. the co is 3.91 the hc is 957 ppm and the lambda is 0.931.. if anyone has any idea what the problem would be and how to fix it i would b very gratefull
