1997 Ford Escort misfire/eratic idle

the car seems to misfire especially when cold and when its hot at 60-70 mph.there seems to be a lack of power when i accelerate.the idle speed sometimes goes up to appox 1500 revs then dies down.i have changed the plugs,leads and coil pack.the car has a aftermarket induction kit on.the fuel filter has not been changed.the car runs smooth up to 60mph when warm.

i think you may need to take your car to a reputable garage that has a computerised diagnostic system. reason being is that with all the technology built into cars of this calibre, it's almost impossible to diagnose problems like we used to on the old breed of car. whilst i have my theory that the eratic idle may be linked to poss the warm up valve/solenoid & loss of power at high speed may be down to poss ignition timing or engine management module. realy i'm just stabbing in the dark, if you know what i mean. sorry i can't be any clearer on this matter, but truly hope you get it sorted. best of luck & let me know how you get on. regards dj dave.
