1996 Ford Escort parasitic drain

Car: Ford Escort
Year: 1996
Variant: 1.6
Categories: Electrics, ECU, Warnings & Lights
I have to jump start every time I haven't used the car for a few hours. I've had the battery and alternator tested and they're both fine. When the car is switched off the battery is still giving off nearly 3A. I've taken out all the fuses to find the source of the drain but none of them seem to have any effect on the current. Relays might be part of the problem but I'm not sure how to get to them. Any help?

hi dave, my brother had a similar fault on his escort diesel van, i checked the alternator & it appeared to be charging when running it was only when he turned it of that it was losing battery power i checked all the earth leads & all appeared fine, so i changed the alternator & low & behold, problem cured!! so if you put a tester on the battery with the alternator still connected you will see voltage drop, disconnect the alternator the voltage will stabilize
