2001 Ford Escort car juddering

the car has started juddering , not sure if its an electrical fault, when you start up the car, the glow plug lights go out, but then when you are driving the light flickers and you can hear the relay ticking every now and then. the car judders when its between 1000 and 2000 revs, it also eems to be smoking a bit now! its in the garage having a new clutch cable, they have checked the glow plugs and all seems working, has anyone got any ideas? HELP!

not to sure about this one but would suggest you have the car looked over by a diesel specialist just to rule out injectors and pump as if its any of these then you are talking mega bucks to replace or it could even want the pump timing up which would be done by the garage for you

could be electrical but also sounds symptomatic of drawing air into fuel line
