Hi. I have a 97 ford escort 1.6 LX. When the engine is reved up things are fine but when you let the throtle go the engine clunks against the front of the car somewhere. Have changed the front left hand side engine mounting as someone sugested but the problem still exists, can you help. thanks.

Years since done one , but almost sure there is a mounting / stabiliser underneath on gear box that used to go .This lets whole engine jump about . Usually tell by grabbing engine and pulling forward whilst looking down back .

The engine is already forward, i can push it back by hand and when you let go it falls forward.

As suggested , check underneath at g/box . Quite common to see them snapped off/broken . If as bad as that , should be able to see fault ok.Sometimes part of transmission casing breaks off where it fits on .
