1999 Ford Escort severe wandering & outside edge tyre wear

Car: Ford Escort
Year: 1999
Variant: 1.8 TD
Categories: Leaks & Noises
Car veers heavily, mainly to the left. This happens whilst no drive is applied to engine, ie when cluthch is depressed changing gear. When gear is engaged car will veer again. When turning right it feels as if the left front wheel is'nt turning to the same degree as the right & the wheel is turning over onto tyre sidewall.
I've jacked car up & checked all components; ball joints, tie rods, control arms & mounting points etc. & there is no apparent excessive play.
No leaks in power steering system & fluid level correct.
Both front tyres have svere outer edge wear.
Viewing car from front there is no discernible camber or toe. Had alignment done to within tolerances 1 month ago.
Any assistance greatly appreciated.

If as bad as you describe there has to something worn to cause steering pull and tyre wear .Either that or there is something bent .Are you sure alignment was done correctly and balanced out evenly when adjusted? i.e I've had cars in where the adjustment was all taken up on one side.Might be worth getting a full geometry / alignment check again . I think likes of National Tyres and Kwik fit used to charge about £40 , whether it is more now , can't say. Get them to check for wear whilst on ramp prior to checking Could also check engine mountings in case one knackered allowing whole powerunit to jump about
