1993 Ford Escort starting problem

i have just bought a escort cabriolet 1.8 16v dohc,1993
bought it few days ago has been running fine
and today started lossing power and then splutering , just about got me home.
when i try and start it now she will spluter and pop then cut out.
have been told the coil pack might be the prob(was told its a common fault)
any idea,s guys?

could be but also could be the air flow meter which is common too for either of these items from a motor factor you will be looking around the 50 pounds mark about 20 to 40 for the coil pack and about 45 for the air flow meter but the first thing i would do is replace the plugs as these dont get replaced when they should be done change these and im sure it will help regarding the starting side and running as you will need to replace them if you do have a coil pack anyway so hope this helps and do get a few quotes for these as prices can be all over the place for these items if its the silver top zetec engine you want hr7mpp22u spark plugs
