how do i test for vaccuum/air leaks from the inlet manifold and other hoses

hold some tissue around the area you susspect is leaking and the tissue will either suck towards the air leak if vacuum is there

With the engine running spray some WD40 around the inlet manifold, if you have a leak there will be a change in engine note.
Also check under the coil pack a some cars with the 16v engine have a rubber air pipe under the coil pack which perish and cause a problem.
