1998 Ford Escort burning to much oil

The problem is my van uses to much oil. I drove 600 miles yesterday and used 5 liters of oil. It smokes blue smoke when being driven but black smoke when just ticking over. I only just bought the van and the garage said it just needs a good service, Will this cure this? Also the van lacks power when going up hill.

99% sure its the head gasket, if it's burning that much oil it needs replacing soon.
