1996 Ford Escort auto gearbox drive stalling fault

Car: Ford Escort
Year: 1996
Variant: 1.6 GHIA AUTO
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
Wants to drive at speed when gear sellected making it impossible to set off slowly. Pulls against brakes instead of a gentle start which when cold makes engine revs drop right down and stall. Been told it was a recall fault from ford but struggling to find information and im unwilling to pay £300 for a recon unit which make me think that a part can be fitted to sort the problem. Cheers Bry.

Hi had the same problem with the fiesta 1.2 zetec auto, took it to fords ,as I was told it was a recall, they said it was not,so phoned head office they said the same, but a mechanic from fords said( as I was leaving,) it was but Iv not told you,he said it was the clutch in the auto box, there is now a modified one, which he said is £1000,and that is why fords would not fix it,our car was to Keen to pull away, foot hard down on the brake, put into drive,or reverse, and the car would serge, and roll, take you foot of the brake,it would ether shoot of like a rocket,or stall, the mechanic that was told to test the car, the same one that told me what was wrong with the car,(and it was a recall),said because it was a 1998,It was not worth spending any money on it ,even though its only done 49.000 miles, and in perfect nick, apart from the box,but the fault can be very dangerous,he said part ex it,or run it in to the ground,we still have it,we did price a reconditioned one at select autos in liverpool they wanted £600 fitted, still thinking about it,good luck
