2000 Fiat Brava engine tapping noise from cold

Starting, from cold, engine makes tapping sound (quite load, like diesel, increases with reving) and continues unless turn engine off (after driving about a mile) and back on. Then fine.
Once sounded like bricks in washing machine - guess not good.....

Not 100% sure on that model but assume it has hydraulic tappets . If so you could try changing oil and filter , very often works , especially if not been done for a while . Use good make of filter and correct grade of oil .Really have to hear noise to be sure it is tappets , but if oil /filter doesn't cure fault ,Wynns do a hydraulic valve cleaner .
