2001 Fiat Brava water under pressure

The car has problems starting when left for a while (like overnight)it sounds water logged,water can be heard rushing about,behind the dash.Rad hoses are under pressure even when the engine has been off for a while. The water level also varies greatly in the expansion chamber.
PS. When the heater is on it don't smell too good either.

Could be head gasket if cooling system pressurising.Check thermostat is operating o.k. Heater matrix could be cause of smell , maybe leaking or choked . Sometimes you get steam through heater vents when fan on if matrix leaking.
