2000 Fiat Brava no power, throbbing idle.

Hi, my Y reg Brava sx was fine this morning, then 2 hours later it went wrong. It is throbbing when the engine is idling, throbbing through all of the gears, there is a clunking sound from the left hand side when you accelerate a bit too hard to compensate for the lack of power and the engine is vibrating aggressively in time with the throbs. It appears to be misfiring but the plugs seem ok and it seems a bit too strong for a miss. I have checked inlet air pipes and taped up any gapes with enough tape to hold up a house. I have checked oil, water and other vital fluids. Im no mechanic but i know just enough and i cant see anything that looks wrong. Nothing out of place or disconnected. Also, where is the coil pack located? Please assist! Thanks all

Is it 16 valve. Or 8
It does sound like a misfire tbh. But possibly to a bad spark plug, I use a lot of these engines and they eat spark plugs.the coil is situated on the right hand of the top of the engine follow the plug leads to it.
There is two of them if its the engine I think you have.
They are cheap to replace so its worthwhile changing those too and keeping them in the boot. Also the plug leads can be stretched inside as they are a pain in the back side to get off the plugs this would also give a misfire but worse under load.
The clunking sound you say sounds very much like the rear gearbox mount. Again very common failure. Does it sound like it's coming from under the passengers feet?
