1998 Fiat Brava it is hard to change gears and i am finding it hard to change from second to third

i have a 1998 fiat marea 2.4 TD and it has developed a problem with the gears it is stiff. it will go into all the gears ok but when i am changing from 2 to 3 it wont select the gear i have to try and shove it into the gear and it is the same when coming down them aswell
dose anyone know if i can fix it myself or a garage job

firstly check the cable as it may be stretched and require a new one or you may have a hydraulic system which could just require bleeding up to remove any air picked up it the system both of these would make it hard to go through the gears up and down as the clutch isnt disengaging from the engines flywheel properly and at the worst you could require a new clutch which i would recommend a garage or a clutch centre to do this type of work for you
