Cyclinder Head

2000 Daewoo Matiz 0.8SE
Car: Daewoo Matiz
Year: 2000
Variant: 0.8SE
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
Does anybody know if the Matiz is an interference or non interference head. Timing Belt snapped, have replaced, car still will not start, suspect that values damaged and causing loss of compression.

If terminal any ideas on cost of new head... Car only worth £400 so its not going to a dealer to rip me off.

Its been great for the kids to learn on and cheap to insure

What work will you have to do on your matiz 800cc 2001 model if the timing belt snaps?

hi, its simple on this car because it is a none interferance engine. that means there is no damage to valves when the belt goes. all you have to do is replace the timing belt which should only take about an hour.

Hope this helps you .

Conflicting advice on interference engine or not here , will try and find for definite .But if compressions gone , looks like it is causing bent valves .

Will a broken timing belt wreck the daewoo matiz .8L engine?

Daewoo Matiz is listed as an interference engine.
There is a most likely chance of engine damage ocuring

in the event of the timing belt failing

Could only find reference to 995cc engine but got this from Daewoo site ,

Post: #2RE: Matiz 995cc engine is it def an interference engine.

hello,

based on my personal previous experience with an incident of a snapped timing belt, I assure you that the Matiz engine (whether 800cc or larger 995cc engines) is an interface type.

if the timing belt snaps off, it will damage the valves and cause other very bad damages.

in my case the belt snapped, the piston hit the valve, the valve pent and touched the spark plug, which caused an electrical short and damaged the ignition coil and the ECM.

had to replace the valves, skim the head once and replaced it eventually, due to repetitive failure.

costs a bundle to repair, as you can imagine, so better safe than sorry...

Phoned one of my former mechanics who knows more about that car than me and he says it is an interference engine . Looks like first post / answer rubbish . You could always whip head off and see what damage . If too bad , a second hand head from scrapyard will not cost a lot if pistons not damaged and just bent valves .

just take the head off and check for damage to valves/pistons,that way you will definately know instead of guessing what damage there is

Thanks to all who have very quickly contributed. I think I will get the head off, have a look and then go and get a cheap head from the scrappy, have been offered one cheap, if ok should make it a fairy cheap repair. What a pain in the back side cars are especially when you have 17 yr old boys........who doesn't know one end of spanner from the other

Thanks again, will be using this forum again....

if you geta head from scrappy i would recommend that you leak test it first to make sure valves are sealing and check for warping and cracks etc
